Student Progression Plan

2025-2026 Student Progression Plan.pdf

Welcome, families! This plan is a simple guide to how students move from one grade to the next in Marion County Public Schools. It explains what students learn, how they are graded, and the help that is available along the way.

When your child enrolls, you’ll need basic papers like proof of age, shots, a health exam, and your address. Coming to school every day is important—too many unexcused absences can cause problems.

Teachers use classwork, tests, and projects to give grades. Report cards show how your child is doing and what to work on next. In elementary school, students build strong reading and math skills. Third-grade reading is a big focus. In middle school, students take core classes and can sometimes start earning high-school credit. In high school, students work toward a diploma and can choose different paths, like college-prep or career/technical programs. Some courses—like AICE, AP, and dual enrollment—may even earn college credit.

Students can join clubs and sports if they meet the rules. There are supports for students with disabilities, English learners, homeless students, and military families. There are also online options through Marion Virtual/FLVS and adult education programs for older learners.
